Christ
We believe there is one true living God, who eternally exists in three persons in unity, the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ) and the Holy Spirit. We believe in the original perfection of creation; the inherent corruptness of humanity through the Fall; the necessity of repentance and regeneration by grace and through faith in Jesus Christ alone, and the eternal separation from God of the finally unrepentant.
Church
Christ Church Roimata was established in 2018 by former members of the Anglican parish of St Johns Woolston as they chose to distance themselves from the Anglican Church of New Zealand (ACANZP). And to distance themselves from teachings that they could not in good conscience agree are in keeping with the Divine inspiration and authority of the Holy Scriptures and traditional Anglican theology.
Roimata
The name Roimata lends its self to a number of aspects of Christ Church Roimata (CCR).
Roimata is:
- the name of one of Christchurch’s first survey districts in the suburb that is now known as Woolston. CCR is committed to continuing the call to share the gospel of Jesus in this area.
- the Maori word for “teardrop”. This reflects the sadness of the congregation as they faced separation from ACANZP, friends and colleagues they have worshiped and ministered alongside for many years.
- the teardrop which is associated with the Maori adze or axe head symbol, when carved the shapes are similar. It is often used as a symbol of strength arising through adversity, brokenness or sadness. This is in keeping with the transforming message of the gospel.
